Our spring meeting at The Berkshire saw a full field of 48 IPAGs and guests assemble to take on the challenge of two courses presented in immaculate condition. An unseasonal chill wasn’t enough to dampen spirits in the early spring sunshine, and an unexpected hailstorm half way through the morning quickly cleared to leave the field enjoying a glorious day across the Red and Blue courses.

IPAGS members tackled the Red Course in pursuit of the Lionel Jackson Trophy for the best stableford score. Tricky greens and gusty wind made for tough scoring conditions, but Philip Hunt emerged victorious with 37 points, pipping Rob Sandford into second spot by a single point.

The Mitchell Spring Trophy for the lowest gross score was retained by a very relieved Duncan Wood, who had forgotten to bring the trophy that he won last year. A four-over par score of 76 was enough to secure a five-shot margin over Rob Oubridge and John Parnell, with the former prevailing in a count back for second place.

A strong showing from a number of guests resulted in a competitive battle for the guest stableford prize. Ian Gibbs score of 39 points looked to be good enough, but new new IPAG Dean Cussell managed a haul of 41 points, and a score that will no doubt help him secure an official WHS handicap and entry to the main competition.

The greensomes competition took place over the Blue course, and no fewer than eight pairs managed a score of 36 points or better. Philip Hunt and partner Rob Oubridge recorded 39 points, as did Chris Kemp and his guest Katy Wright - the latter taking the second place prize on a count back.

But captain Jon Davie recruited our erstwhile scorer Eddy Mason as his partner to make up the numbers, and the pair recorded a level-par round of 71 to take the spoils with 41 stableford points.
