The Past Captains meeting is an invitational event that takes place at Swinley Forest Golf Club in Berkshire. The field is made up of past captains and current committee members, who compete in a 36-hole stableford competition over Harry Colt’s ‘least bad course’.

Our annual visit to the oasis of Swinley Forest is always an event to look forward to, and a field featuring nine past captains and 12 esteemed guests assembled to tackle Harry Colt’s heathland classic. A hint of early drizzle soon gave way to a glorious late summer day, with light breezes and bright sunshine. The benign conditions made for some excellent scoring - for those able to stay out of the punishing heather at least.

After the morning round John Parnell and Andy Byrd were tied for the lead on 37 points, with  the chasing pack hard on their heels. Matt Reynolds made a late surge with a 38-point haul in the afternoon, but it wasn’t enough to catch Mr Parnell, who backed up his morning score with 39 points in the afternoon, finishing three shots clear with a four-under par total and 76 stableford points.
