Captain Ed Glover presents the President’s Prize trophy to the overall winner Steve Henderson

Captain’s Day represents a stern test of golf for IPAGs members - a 36-hole individual stableford competition contested over the tricky heathland test at New Zealand Golf Club. The winner goes home with The President’s Trophy - a prize that was first contested more than 50 years ago in 1968.

2023 report

A full field of 32 golfers enjoyed the challenge of 36-holes strokeplay across a firm and fast New Zealand course baked out by the glorious weather.

Dan Andrews took the morning prize with a score of 34 points, beating Matt Reynolds by a countback.

Scoring in the afternoon was better, no doubt thanks to the famous New Zealand lunch and wine list. Terry Bannister claimed the post-prandial honours with an impressive 37 points, a 15-shot improvement on his morning effort.

The overall prize and the President’s Trophy went to Steve Henderson, with scores of 32 and 36 points giving him a three-shot win over second-placed Henry Moore.
