Captain Ed Glover presents the Winter Meeting Trophy to Chris Hyland

2023/4 report

Minutes of the 2024 AGM are available here.

A full field of 42 golfers braved a morning of heavy rain at Worplesdon for rhe final meeting of the 2023 IPAGs season. That the course remained open at all is a testament to the sandy soil and excellent drainage that Worplesdon members enjoy, and the hot showers and hearty post-round meal were a welcome respite from conditions that made scoring difficult.

Difficult, but not impossible.

Nick Smith posted a very impressive gross score of 76, a score of five over par and five shots clear of Dan Hocking.

But the winner of the Winter Meeting Trophy was Chris Hyland, who recorded 36 stableford points off a course handicap of 20. Mark Young took second place on a countback - his score of 34 points was also matched by Samuel Pitt, Roger Scarlett-Smith and Nick Smith.

After presenting Chris with his trophy, captain Ed Glover moved on to announce the winners of the Royds knockout and season-long Scorange trophies.

Congratulations to Dan Barnett & Mark Young who won the Royds Trophy, defeating Paul Bainsfair & John Parnell in the final at The Berkshire.

2023 also saw us launch a new Plate competition for first-round losers in the Royds. Jim Bridgen & Andy Stevens were the inaugural winners, beating Miles Templeman & Robin Shuker in the final at Sunningdale.

The Scorange is awarded to the golfer who has the best average stableford score across the season, with a minimum of four rounds required. Only two IPAGs had a realistic chance of winning at the start of the day, and after a war of attrition in the rain, Karen Crum and Matt Reynolds both ended up with a season long average of exactly 36 points. After consulting the IPAGS rulebook it was determined that the Scorange trophy would be shared by Karen and Matt - congrats to both.

After presenting the prizes captain Ed Glover called the assembled IPAGs to order for the AGM - please click here for the minutes
